Genasys announced a $1 million international order for its LRAD‑RT acoustic system, integrated with DeTect’s MERLIN avian radar, to detect and deter wildlife from restricted areas. The contract is the first time the company’s LRAD Reach Technology has been combined with an avian radar platform, marking a new capability for the firm’s hardware line.
The order is part of a 15‑year partnership with DeTect and will be deployed by international mining and oil‑and‑gas operators. DeTect’s MERLIN radar is already used by the U.S. Air Force and NASA for bird‑aircraft strike hazard management, giving the combined solution a strong credibility base in high‑stakes environments.
Genasys’ Q3 2025 revenue reached $9.9 million, a 38% year‑over‑year increase, with hardware revenue up 50%. The new order adds to that hardware momentum, but the company’s gross margin was 26.3% in the quarter, down from 52.8% in Q3 2024, largely due to percentage‑of‑completion accounting for the Puerto Rico Early Warning System project and underutilized hardware bookings. The $1 million order represents roughly 10% of quarterly revenue, underscoring its materiality relative to the company’s size.
Strategically, the deal diversifies Genasys’ market reach beyond traditional security applications into environmental protection and wildlife management. By coupling focused acoustic deterrence with radar detection, the company can offer a more comprehensive solution that reduces habituation and improves effectiveness compared to conventional omnidirectional deterrents. This expansion aligns with Genasys’ broader goal of tapping new verticals while leveraging its core acoustic technology.
David Schnell, Vice President of Global Hardware Sales, said the partnership “has been 15 years in the making and the combined LRAD‑RT and MERLIN system provides a humane, effective deterrent for industrial sites that need to protect both people and wildlife.”
The order demonstrates Genasys’ ability to translate its acoustic platform into new application domains, reinforcing its position as a versatile provider of safety and protection solutions while opening a recurring revenue stream in the growing environmental monitoring market.
