Google Cloud announced on January 13, 2026 that it has deepened its partnership with Nvidia to bring the company’s next‑generation Blackwell GPU architecture to the cloud. The move makes Google Cloud one of the first providers to offer Blackwell‑powered virtual machines for enterprise AI workloads, following Nvidia’s March 18, 2024 launch of the architecture and the availability of Blackwell GPUs in Google Cloud’s preview of A4X instances in early 2025.
The new offering includes Blackwell‑based accelerator‑optimized VMs such as the A4X, A4 and G4 instances. These machines deliver up to 2.5× higher throughput for large‑scale transformer training, 3× faster inference for scientific simulations, and 4× more efficient compute for emerging agentic AI systems. The A4X, in particular, is built on Nvidia’s GB200 NVL72 chip and is designed to support the most demanding workloads in data‑center and edge deployments.
By adding Blackwell GPUs, Google Cloud positions itself ahead of competitors that are also rolling out the architecture, such as AWS and Azure. The partnership gives Google Cloud a distinct advantage in the high‑performance AI market, allowing it to attract customers who need the latest hardware for training and deploying next‑generation models. Early adoption also signals Alphabet’s commitment to maintaining a leadership edge in AI infrastructure.
The Blackwell GPUs are integrated with Google’s Gemini AI models and Vertex AI services, enabling confidential computing and agentic AI solutions for enterprise customers. The combination allows secure, high‑performance inference and training while protecting data privacy, a key requirement for government and regulated industries. The partnership also supports Google Distributed Cloud, which brings the same hardware to on‑premises and edge sites, expanding the reach of Gemini and Vertex AI beyond the public cloud.
Alphabet’s CEO Sundar Pichai said the partnership “reinforces our mission to build the most advanced AI infrastructure and to make AI accessible to every enterprise, while ensuring the highest standards of security and privacy.” The announcement underscores Alphabet’s $75 billion AI‑infrastructure investment plan and its focus on enterprise, government and security‑sensitive markets.
