Global Payments announced a new modular countertop point‑of‑sale device that will run exclusively on its Genius platform. The device, designed to be purpose‑built for retail and restaurant merchants, offers a flexible hardware architecture that can be customized to fit a wide range of store layouts and operational needs.

The rollout plan begins with a commercial deployment in the United States in December 2025, targeting enterprise customers first. A small‑business rollout follows in the first quarter of 2026, and a low‑profile configuration will be available from the same quarter, allowing merchants to scale their hardware as their operations grow. The device is available in three configurations—dual‑screen, single‑screen with a built‑in PC, and a low‑profile option—providing merchants with the right balance of functionality and footprint for their specific use case.

The launch is a key element of Global Payments’ broader strategy to unify its merchant‑solutions offerings under the Genius brand and to become a pure‑play provider. The company is in the final stages of acquiring Worldpay for $22.7 billion and divesting its issuer‑solutions business to FIS for $13.5 billion, moves that are expected to close in the first quarter of 2026. By adding a modular hardware platform that complements its software‑centric Genius ecosystem, Global Payments positions itself to capture a larger share of the fragmented POS market and to accelerate adoption of its integrated commerce solutions.

CEO Cameron Bready said the new device “reinforces the Genius platform’s promise of a seamless, scalable experience for merchants.” He added that the modularity of the hardware will “enable merchants to grow their operations without the need for costly, discrete upgrades,” underscoring the company’s focus on long‑term customer value and operational efficiency.

The POS market remains highly fragmented, with many vendors offering single‑purpose hardware. Global Payments’ modular device addresses this fragmentation by providing a single, adaptable platform that can serve both small restaurants and large retail chains. The ability to scale hardware as a merchant’s needs evolve gives Global Payments a competitive edge in a market where flexibility and cost control are critical to win and retain customers.

Global Payments’ Q3 2025 earnings, released earlier this month, showed an adjusted EPS of $3.26 versus consensus of $3.23—a $0.03 beat—despite a revenue miss of $2.01 billion against a $2.41 billion forecast. The earnings beat was driven by disciplined cost management and a favorable mix shift toward higher‑margin Genius‑platform services. The company’s recent product launches, including the modular POS device, are expected to support future revenue growth and margin expansion as the Genius ecosystem matures.
