The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, in collaboration with TNO, announced a significant advancement in vehicle safety systems by integrating tire intelligence technology into automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems. This development builds on previous success in integrating tire intelligence into antilock braking systems. The integration of Goodyear SightLine, the company's suite of tire intelligence solutions, enables AEB systems to function effectively across a wider range of driving environments, including low-friction surfaces like wet roads or ice. Tire intelligence provides AEB with deeper insights into actual tire and road conditions, facilitating more precise decision-making. Wet road testing indicates that an enhanced AEB system incorporating Goodyear SightLine technology has the potential to mitigate impacts at speeds of up to 80 kph (50 mph) by engaging braking earlier. This breakthrough positions Goodyear as a leader in advanced safety solutions, meeting and exceeding regulatory requirements, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) 2029 mandate for AEB systems.
