Granite Construction has secured a $24 million contract to transform the Perris South Metrolink Station and Layover Facility in Riverside County, California. The project will convert the single‑track terminus into a bidirectional hub, adding a second passenger platform and track, extending the existing platform, and expanding the layover facility to accommodate future commuter growth.

Design work for the upgrade was completed in spring 2025, and construction is slated to begin in early 2026 with a projected completion in 2028. Funding for the project will come from local sources and is reflected in Granite’s fourth‑quarter committed and awarded projects (CAP) balance, underscoring the company’s ability to secure and manage public‑sector financing.

The award aligns with Granite’s strategy to expand its rail‑end market presence. It adds a large public‑sector project to the company’s portfolio, strengthens its regional footprint in the Inland Empire, and leverages experience gained from the March Field Station upgrade in Moreno Valley.

Granite’s recent financial performance supports the significance of this contract. In Q3 2024 the company reported revenue of $1.3 billion, up 14% year‑over‑year, and a record $5.6 billion in CAP. The new project adds to a growing pipeline that is expected to drive continued revenue growth and reinforce the company’s competitive position in the construction sector.

Bill Moore, Granite’s Vice President of Regional Operations, said the project “builds on our successful partnership with RCTC and Metrolink and leverages Granite’s core strengths in heavy civil construction and rail.” He added that the company’s recent completion of a comparable project only 13 miles away positions it to meet the expanding commuter rail needs of the region.

The upgrade is part of Riverside County Transportation Commission’s broader effort to enhance rail capacity on the State Route 91/Perris Valley Line. By improving reliability and frequency, the project supports sustainable growth, offers a viable alternative to congested freeways, and prepares the corridor for increased demand during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and Paralympics.
