Granite Construction, in a joint venture with Obayashi Corporation, has been awarded an approximately $97 million contract by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). The project aims to improve the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capabilities at Polaris Point, Guam.
Project funding is provided by the Department of Defense (DOD), and the total contract award of $97 million was included in Granite’s first-quarter Committed and Awarded Projects (CAP). This initiative will construct a 17,000 square foot facility to house battery energy storage and a microgrid controller.
The BESS will be interconnected with the existing electrical grid to provide clean power to future Naval facilities. Construction is expected to begin on March 20, 2025, and is slated for completion in June 2028, ensuring continued growth in the Pacific region.
