HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division finished builder’s sea trials for the guided‑missile destroyer Ted Stevens (DDG 128) on 27 September 2025, a key milestone in the construction of the second Flight III Arleigh Burke‑class destroyer at the Mississippi yard. The trials, conducted over several days in the Gulf of America, tested the ship’s engineering, navigation and combat systems, including the Flight III AN/SPY‑6(V)1 radar array and Aegis Baseline 10 combat system, ensuring the vessel meets Navy requirements before acceptance trials and eventual delivery. With 35 Arleigh Burke‑class destroyers already delivered, including the first Flight III, USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) in June 2023, the successful sea trials of Ted Stevens confirm progress on the five remaining Flight III ships—Jeremiah Denton, George M. Neal, Sam Nunn and Thad Cochran—supporting the Navy’s modernized surface combatant fleet. The milestone also aligns with HII’s recent partnership strategy to expand throughput across multiple shipyards, positioning the company to meet growing U.S. Navy demand and maintain its leadership in nuclear‑powered and advanced surface ship construction.
