Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has added Westley Group, a United Kingdom‑based manufacturer of high‑integrity metal castings, as a strategic supplier for its Newport News Shipbuilding division, expanding the company’s submarine supply chain under the AUKUS framework.

Westley Group operates four vertically integrated facilities in the United Kingdom and employs more than 300 people. The company specializes in sand and centrifugal castings, precision machining, non‑destructive testing, and final assembly, and it complies with U.S. ITAR and DFARS regulations, making it a trusted partner for defense programs.

The partnership is intended to reduce lead times and enhance component quality for nuclear‑powered submarines and aircraft carriers. Matt Mulherin Jr., vice president of supply chain and strategic sourcing at Newport News Shipbuilding, said the collaboration will strengthen the U.S. Navy’s supply chain resilience amid ongoing supply‑chain disruptions.

The move aligns with AUKUS objectives to integrate defense supply chains across the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia, and supports HII’s role as the sole builder of nuclear‑powered aircraft carriers and a key submarine builder for the U.S. Navy.
