HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. has begun a new chapter in its global infrastructure strategy by launching the BUZZ AI cloud platform in Asunción, Paraguay. The platform is housed in a Tier III data center operated by the country’s leading telecommunications operator and is designed to deliver high‑performance computing and AI services to academic institutions, enterprises, financial services firms, and healthcare providers across South America.
The new facility will feature an enterprise‑grade GPU cluster capable of supporting AI training, inference, and data‑intensive workloads. It will be powered by Paraguay’s 300‑megawatt hydroelectric plant, which delivers electricity at less than two cents per kilowatt‑hour, and will tap the telecom operator’s national fiber network to provide low‑latency, high‑bandwidth connectivity. HIVE has indicated that the partnership could add an additional 100 MW of capacity in 2026, further expanding its green‑energy‑driven infrastructure portfolio.
This expansion is a key element of HIVE’s dual‑transform strategy, moving beyond Bitcoin mining to establish a high‑margin AI and HPC business. By leveraging the country’s abundant, low‑cost renewable energy and existing data‑center footprint, HIVE can offer competitive pricing while maintaining strong operational leverage. The move also positions the company to serve a broader customer base in South America, unlocking new revenue streams and reinforcing its competitive edge in the digital infrastructure market.
HIVE’s Q1 2026 financial results provide a solid backdrop for the new venture. The company reported record revenue of $45.6 million and net income of $35.0 million for the quarter ended June 30 2025, a sharp turnaround from a $32.24 million revenue and $18.29 million loss in the same period a year earlier. HPC revenue grew 59.8% sequentially to $4.8 million, underscoring the demand for high‑performance compute services that the new platform will support.
Frank Holmes, Executive Chairman, said the Paraguay expansion “demonstrates how energy‑led digital infrastructure can create long‑term value while supporting the Bitcoin network’s security.” Aydin Kilic, President and CEO, added that the BUZZ AI platform “enables local organizations to access high‑performance compute capacity locally, complementing HIVE’s existing Tier I data center operations in Paraguay.”
The launch signals a broader shift toward high‑margin, renewable‑energy‑powered services that can drive sustainable growth. With the planned 100 MW expansion and a focus on AI and HPC, HIVE is poised to capture a growing market for low‑cost, high‑performance compute, potentially reshaping its revenue mix and strengthening its position against global cloud providers.
