Hecla Mining’s wholly owned subsidiary, Klondex Aurora Mine Inc., received a Finding of No Significant Impact and Decision Notice from the U.S. Forest Service for its Polaris Exploration Project in Mineral County, Nevada, clearing the way for exploration activities to begin in 2026.

The approval, issued on November 20, 2025, confirms that the proposed exploration will not have significant environmental effects—a critical hurdle for projects in the Humboldt‑Toiyabe National Forest.

The Aurora Mining District, which has produced 1.9 million ounces of gold and 20 million ounces of silver and averages 2.24 ounces of gold per ton, is a prime target for high‑grade epithermal vein systems. Hecla plans to test multiple vein systems across several erosional levels, targeting sites such as Martinez, Juniata, Ann, Brawley Peak, Sawtooth Ridge, and Polaris.

Existing infrastructure—including a 600‑ton‑per‑day mill and significant private land holdings—positions Hecla to accelerate development and reduce permitting costs, giving the company a competitive advantage in the region.

Management highlighted the strategic fit: “The Aurora District’s high‑grade potential aligns with our Nevada focus and supports our long‑term growth and capital allocation strategy,” said Kurt Allen, Vice President of Exploration.

The FONSI also signals that Hecla has successfully navigated environmental concerns that have historically challenged mining projects in the Humboldt‑Toiyabe National Forest, mitigating potential headwinds from conservation groups.

While the approval does not guarantee resource discovery, it removes a major regulatory barrier and positions Hecla to begin drilling in 2026, potentially adding a new high‑grade gold and silver resource to its Nevada portfolio.
