Honeywell announced a new pilot collaboration with TotalEnergies at the Port Arthur Refinery in Texas, deploying its Experion Operations Assistant, an AI‑powered control‑room solution designed to help operators make faster, data‑driven decisions. The announcement was made on November 11, 2025, and the pilot is already underway.

This is Honeywell’s second deployment of the Experion Operations Assistant at Port Arthur, following a prior pilot in the refinery’s Delayed Coking Unit. The current pilot has already forecasted five potential events an average of 12 minutes before alarm incidents, providing real‑time predictive insights that can reduce downtime and lower flaring emissions. The early results demonstrate the system’s ability to improve operational safety in a high‑stakes environment.

The pilot underscores the growing importance of AI in the refining industry, where predictive capabilities can translate into measurable gains in reliability, safety, and environmental performance. By demonstrating that the Experion platform can anticipate problems before alarms trigger, Honeywell is validating the commercial value of its AI‑driven control‑room solutions and positioning itself for broader adoption across the sector.

Honeywell’s move aligns with its broader portfolio transformation, which includes the planned separation of its Automation and Aerospace businesses into independent entities. The pilot serves as a tangible proof point that the company’s AI strategy can deliver operational benefits, supporting the narrative that the Experion platform is a key growth engine in the company’s automation portfolio.

"Honeywell’s decades of domain expertise and industry knowledge are helping to solve our customers’ toughest challenges with tangible solutions like Experion Operations Assistant," said Jim Masso, President and CEO of Honeywell Process Solutions. "This pilot with TotalEnergies will mark a meaningful milestone for bridging the gap between autonomous technology and the operators that keep these facilities running safely and efficiently every day." Raphael Duflos, VP and General Manager of TotalEnergies’ Port Arthur Platform, added, "Partnering with Honeywell at our Port Arthur Refinery represents an important step in our journey toward operational excellence across our facility. We believe this solution could contribute to safer operations, reduced downtime, and minimized product losses."

Honeywell’s Q3 2025 earnings, released on October 23, 2025, exceeded analyst expectations and led the company to raise its full‑year guidance. While the pilot announcement itself is a separate operational milestone, it complements the company’s broader narrative of leveraging AI to drive efficiency and profitability in its automation business.
