IHS Nigeria, a part of IHS Holding Limited, announced on May 22, 2025, a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). This collaboration aims to enhance the protection of critical telecommunications infrastructure across Nigeria. A memorandum of understanding was signed to formalize this joint effort.
The partnership seeks to address challenges such as theft and sabotage affecting tower sites, fiber optic cables, and other telecommunications infrastructure. The NSCDC, responsible for safeguarding critical national information infrastructure, will support IHS Nigeria in areas including site surveillance, emergency responses, and incident reporting. This proactive measure is designed to ensure the resilience and availability of connectivity.
Under the terms of the MoU, the NSCDC will also assist in matters related to tower decommissioning and will investigate, apprehend, and prosecute alleged site violators. IHS Nigeria operates over 16,000 towers and has deployed over 15,000 kilometers of fiber in Nigeria, making the security of these assets vital for the country's digital economy and the quality of service for users.
