On Monday, October 27, 2025, IMAX Corporation and Cinemark Holdings Inc. announced a new partnership that will bring IMAX with Laser and IMAX 70mm film systems to 17 Cinemark locations across the United States and South America. The agreement includes the installation of new IMAX with Laser systems and the addition of 70mm film projectors at Cinemark Seven Bridges in Chicago, Illinois; Cinemark Carefree Circle in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Cinemark Tinseltown in Rochester, New York. All three 70mm film locations are slated to be operational before Christopher Nolan’s "The Odyssey," the first theatrical release shot entirely in IMAX film, arrives in theaters on July 17, 2026.

The expansion represents a significant increase in IMAX’s system count and extends the company’s premium offering to a large network of exhibitors. Cinemark operates 304 theaters and 4,249 screens in the United States and 193 theaters and 1,398 screens across 13 South and Central American countries, giving IMAX a broad platform for its upcoming releases. By adding IMAX with Laser and 70mm film capabilities, Cinemark enhances its immersive options, which is expected to drive higher ticket prices, increased attendance, and stronger loyalty among moviegoers.

The partnership aligns with IMAX’s strategy to deliver high‑quality, differentiated experiences and to support its slate of “Filmed for IMAX” and 70mm‑film releases. The new systems will enable Cinemark to showcase the full visual and audio potential of upcoming titles, potentially boosting box‑office revenue and reinforcing IMAX’s market share in the premium cinema segment.
