IonQ, through its subsidiary ID Quantique, announced the launch of Slovakia’s first national quantum communication network on December 8 2025. The network, built in partnership with the Institute of Physics at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, employs IonQ’s quantum‑key‑distribution (QKD) technology combined with a hybrid QKD‑post‑quantum cryptography (PQC) architecture to deliver a resilient, high‑throughput secure channel between key national sites, including the Office of the President, the National Security Authority, and the Quantum Pavilion in Bratislava.

The deployment is a cornerstone of the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) initiative, which seeks to create a continent‑wide quantum‑resistant backbone. By integrating its recently acquired ID Quantique platform, IonQ has positioned itself as a leading provider of quantum‑safe networking solutions outside the United States, reinforcing its strategy of unifying quantum computing, networking, and cybersecurity under one umbrella.

IonQ’s expansion into Slovakia signals a broader push for digital sovereignty across the EU. The network’s presence in four strategic locations demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver end‑to‑end quantum infrastructure, opening the door to additional European government contracts and collaborations. Analysts note that the deployment aligns with the EU’s goal of reducing reliance on foreign quantum technologies and supports the broader quantum internet roadmap.

Niccolo de Masi, Chairman and CEO of IonQ, said the project “fortifies the digital sovereignty of the EU and showcases the power of combining IonQ’s quantum‑safe networking with the scientific leadership of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.” Mario Ziman, Director at the Institute of Physics, added that the initiative “positions Slovakia at the forefront of quantum communication in Europe and demonstrates real‑world use cases for quantum technologies in critical national institutions.”

IonQ’s market capitalization stands at $18.67 billion, and the company has reported a 113 % year‑over‑year revenue growth, underscoring the commercial momentum behind its quantum‑safe networking portfolio. The deployment is expected to strengthen investor confidence in IonQ’s long‑term strategy to capture a growing share of the projected $10‑15 billion quantum networking market by 2035.
