On Oct 14 2025, Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM) and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced that they had successfully integrated Iridium data services into Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Mission Tactical Radio (MTR). The integration enables MTR‑equipped devices—ranging from handheld and mounted radios to autonomous vehicles—to access Iridium’s L‑band satellite communications for reliable, secure connectivity in environments where terrestrial networks are congested, compromised, or unavailable. The partnership incorporates multiple Iridium services, including Short Burst Data (SBD) for low‑latency messaging and telemetry, and Iridium Burst for broadcast to an unlimited number of enabled devices. Combined with Qualcomm’s cellular, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and GNSS capabilities, the solution delivers global connectivity that meets the stringent size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP‑C) requirements of military and allied users. The integration is part of the Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services (EMSS) program, allowing activation through original equipment manufacturers and making the services available via the Snapdragon X75 5G Modem‑RF System as an M.2 modem module. This move expands Iridium’s reach into tactical and autonomous vehicle markets, reinforcing its unique global coverage advantage and positioning the company for future growth in mission‑critical communications.
