Iridium Communications Inc. announced the Iridium PNT ASIC, a miniature 8 mm × 8 mm chip that delivers authenticated, pole‑to‑pole positioning, navigation, and timing data. The chip is part of Iridium’s STL (Satellite Time and Location) service, which is already available to customers.

The ASIC offers a resilient alternative to traditional GNSS, providing protection against jamming, spoofing, and timing interruptions. It delivers a signal 1,000 times stronger than GPS, can operate inside buildings, and continuously verifies signal integrity to maintain reliable navigation and timing.

The chip was showcased at last month’s Jammertest in September 2025, where it maintained timing accuracy and navigation reliability under controlled jamming and spoofing exercises. It was also unveiled at the International Timing and Sync Forum (ITSF) in Prague, which ran from October 27 to 30, 2025.

Iridium’s CEO Matt Desch said the chip is the first globally available, on‑chip GPS protection solution, positioning the company as a pioneer in the emerging alternative PNT market. The market for such technology is projected to reach $3.5 billion by 2032.

The Iridium PNT ASIC is not yet commercially available; beta trials are open and evaluation kits are being distributed to interested organizations. Commercial availability is slated for mid‑2026. The chip follows Iridium’s acquisition of Satelles in 2024, which provided the foundation for the PNT service, and represents a significant reduction in size and cost compared to Iridium’s earlier five‑pound PNT system.
