Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM) announced today that it has been selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for a Rapid Phase Award II under the Complementary Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (CPNT) Action Plan. The award is a new government contract to deploy and test Iridium’s PNT services across the United States in partnership with T‑Mobile, expanding the company’s presence in the 5G ecosystem. Under the contract, T‑Mobile will install Iridium PNT receivers at 90 additional live 5G network sites nationwide. The receivers deliver sub‑100‑nanosecond accuracy, are 1,000 times stronger than GPS, and provide indoor coverage without the need for an outdoor antenna, all secured with cryptographic techniques. This contract strengthens Iridium’s PNT business and enhances resilience against GPS disruptions that can cause downtime and compromise 5G network performance. By providing a complementary timing synchronization service, Iridium helps ensure reliable 5G service for critical infrastructure and customers across the country. Iridium’s low‑Earth‑orbit L‑band constellation delivers truly global, weather‑resilient connectivity, making it the only satellite network capable of offering such PNT services worldwide. The award reinforces Iridium’s strategic moat and positions the company for continued revenue growth in the emerging PNT market.
