Jacobs Solutions Inc. entered into a five‑year engineering design, planning and project management framework with EirGrid, the Irish transmission system operator. The framework, which includes an option for an additional three years, covers high‑voltage transmission infrastructure both overground and underground, and both alternating current (HVAC) and high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) technologies. It also incorporates environmental and health‑and‑safety services as part of the overall scope.

The agreement is part of EirGrid’s “Shaping Our Electricity Future” strategy, which aims to modernise Ireland’s transmission system to support the country’s 2030 target of at least 80 % renewable electricity generation.

Under the framework, Jacobs will form an integrated design team to deliver end‑to‑end services in planning, design and project management for the high‑voltage transmission projects. The contract expands Jacobs’ footprint in Ireland and complements its existing portfolio of infrastructure projects, including the National Transport Authority’s BusConnects Dublin and Cork programmes, Irish Rail’s Galway‑to‑Portarlington rail upgrade, and Uisce Éireann’s sustainable water services.

Globally, Jacobs has delivered projects such as the Suedlink underground high‑voltage cable in Germany, Xcel Energy’s transmission reliability programme in the United States, and the Marinus Link interconnector in Australia.

The financial value of the five‑year framework was not disclosed, and the exact commencement date is not specified, but the framework is expected to begin in late 2025.

In the same month, Turner & Townsend was awarded a five‑year contract to oversee Ireland’s grid upgrade, indicating a competitive procurement environment.

Jacobs employs more than 1,200 people in Ireland and reported approximately $12 billion in annual revenue with a global workforce of nearly 45,000 employees. The new framework adds to Jacobs’ backlog and positions the company to capture revenue from a growing market of renewable‑driven transmission upgrades, reinforcing its strategic focus on infrastructure and advanced facilities.
