Joby Aviation, Inc. today announced it has completed its acquisition of Blade Air Mobility’s passenger business. This acquisition provides Joby with Blade’s established network of terminals and loyal flyers in key markets such as New York and Southern Europe.
The acquisition positions Joby for a faster entry into commercial service with its quiet, all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Blade’s passenger operations will continue as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Joby, led by Blade founder and CEO Rob Wiesenthal.
By utilizing Blade’s existing infrastructure and gradually transitioning its customer base from conventional helicopters to Joby aircraft, Joby expects to accelerate its commercialization. This strategic move is designed to reduce infrastructure investment requirements and customer acquisition costs as Joby prepares for its global rollout.
