KBR Inc. announced that it has been selected to lead the front‑end engineering and design (FEED) of a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the Texas Gulf Coast. The project, named Coastal Bend LNG, will feature multiple liquefaction trains, cogeneration, LNG storage tanks and export infrastructure, and will employ ConocoPhillips’ Optimized Cascade® Process to reduce greenhouse‑gas emissions.
The award positions KBR as the primary engineering partner for the project. If the final investment decision is approved, the subsequent engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) phase will be executed jointly with Spanish engineering firm Técnicas Reunidas. While the financial terms of the FEED contract have not been disclosed, the potential EPC work could represent a substantial revenue stream for KBR.
Coastal Bend LNG is planned to have a capacity of 22.5 million tonnes per annum, with up to five liquefaction trains each capable of 4.5 mtpa. The design incorporates carbon capture, transport and storage to deliver low‑carbon‑intensity natural gas, and leverages Honeywell UOP technologies for gas treatment and heavy‑hydrocarbon removal.
Strategically, the contract expands KBR’s LNG portfolio and adds recurring engineering revenue, reinforcing its reputation as a leading LNG solutions provider. The project’s focus on low‑carbon LNG aligns with KBR’s sustainability commitments and positions the company to benefit from the growing demand for cleaner energy in the U.S. Gulf Coast region. The win also dovetails with KBR’s broader transformation, including the planned spin‑off of its Mission Technology Solutions segment.
The announcement underscores KBR’s continued presence in the expanding U.S. LNG export market and highlights its ability to partner with major engineering firms on large‑scale, technologically advanced projects.
