Kodak is celebrating the 30th anniversary of thermal plate imaging, a technology innovation first introduced at drupa 1995 that revolutionized prepress processes. Creo, acquired by Kodak in 2005, developed the first thermal platesetter, marking a fundamental transformation of the CTP market.
Thermal imaging offered significant advantages over visible-light CTP technology in terms of stability, image quality, and ease of handling. KODAK SQUARESPOT Technology set a new standard with up to 10,000-dpi resolution, ensuring precise dot reproduction and reducing errors.
This technology also laid the foundation for process-free offset plates, a segment where Kodak now holds a leading position with its KODAK SONORA Process Free Plates, used by over 6,000 printers worldwide. R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company (RRD) was the world's first user of this innovation in 1995.
