Kratos Defense & Security Solutions announced the progress of its Indiana Payload Integration Facility (IPIF), a 68,000‑square‑foot complex in Crane, Indiana, that will be fully mission‑capable by the end of 2026. The project is a $50 million investment designed to accelerate the integration and flight testing of hypersonic payloads for the Multi‑Service Advanced Capabilities Hypersonic Testbed (MACH‑TB) program.
The IPIF was broken ground on March 18, 2025, and the facility will provide a dedicated, state‑of‑the‑art environment that shortens development timelines and enhances the reliability of Kratos’s hypersonic flyers and propulsion systems. By concentrating testing and integration activities in one location, the company can reduce the time from design to flight test, a critical advantage in a rapidly evolving hypersonic landscape.
The facility supports the Department of Defense’s focus on rapid, affordable hypersonic capabilities. By enabling faster integration and testing, Kratos strengthens its position as the only U.S. defense contractor that delivers both propulsion and flyer technologies for hypersonic systems, reinforcing its role as a key partner in national security projects such as MACH‑TB 2.0.
Kratos estimates the IPIF will create more than 100 high‑tech jobs in the region, with an average annual wage of $80,000. The investment is part of a broader Indiana strategy that includes a solid‑rocket motor production facility in Bloomfield, positioning the state as a hub for advanced defense manufacturing and providing a significant economic boost to local communities.
President and CEO Eric DeMarco said the facility “represents a strategic investment in our Nation’s hypersonic capabilities and workforce.” The announcement underscores Kratos’s commitment to delivering rapid, affordable, and innovative solutions while expanding domestic production capacity and supporting the U.S. defense industrial base.
