September 19, 2025
On November 5, 2024, nLIGHT, Inc. announced the production launch of its Corona AFX-2000, a two-kilowatt laser featuring proprietary beam shaping technology. This new laser is designed to significantly boost productivity in laser powder bed fusion processes for metal additive manufacturing. The Corona AFX-2000 has undergone successful commercial validation with a leading customer serving the aerospace, defense, and automotive markets. This customer achieved print speeds up to three times faster for aluminum alloys compared to existing large-format printers. The dynamic beam shaping technology allows the AFX-2000 to deliver twice the available power while maintaining a stable process, leading to higher productivity and lower cost per part. This innovation is expected to be widely adopted for reflective alloys like aluminum and copper, enabling meaningful reductions in part costs for high-volume manufacturing.
