Centrus Energy announced today that its subsidiary, American Centrifuge Operating, LLC (ACO), has secured an award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) aimed at expanding domestic commercial production of Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU). This award is intended to meet the needs of both existing and future nuclear reactors.
This marks the third selection for Centrus under the DOE's nuclear fuel supply program, following previous awards for HALEU deconversion and HALEU production. ACO is one of six awardees for LEU production, with a minimum contract value of $2 million and a maximum aggregate value for all awardees of $3.4 billion over a ten-year period.
The ultimate dollar amount for Centrus will depend on task orders subsequently issued by the DOE. This award, combined with Centrus's $60 million investment in centrifuge manufacturing announced on November 20, 2024, positions the company to scale up its enrichment capacity with American technology and a domestic supply chain.
