Lifeward Ltd. announced on November 19, 2024, that the government of Hungary has established a new state insurance code to provide coverage for exoskeleton training for individuals with spinal cord injury. This decision follows research conducted by Semmelweis University in Budapest, which examined the long-term therapeutic benefits of rehabilitation with the ReWalk Exoskeleton.
The new policy means that case processing for individuals will be sponsored by the Hungarian State Insurance on a case-by-case basis. This expands access to exoskeletons to Hungary, joining the United States and Germany in providing such coverage.
Lifeward's ReWalk system has been available in Hungary since 2019, and it is the only personal exoskeleton with both US and EU official certification (FDA, CE/MDR) allowed for home use. With approximately 300 new cases of spinal cord injury in Hungary annually, this policy creates a new market opportunity for the company.
