Southwest Airlines announced on March 4, 2025, the closure of two flight attendant satellite bases at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The closures are effective July 1, 2025.
Approximately 280 flight attendants will be affected by these closures. These employees will have the option to transfer to one of Southwest's 12 main bases, as part of the company's ongoing cost-cutting and network optimization efforts.
The airline stated that this change aims to strengthen its crew network and support a more reliable operation. This follows previous announcements of corporate job cuts and reductions in unprofitable routes, reflecting a broader strategic shift to improve profitability.
