Southwest Airlines announced a new interline partnership with German carrier Condor that will take effect on January 19 2026. The agreement allows Condor passengers to connect to Southwest’s domestic network, creating seamless transatlantic itineraries that link Condor’s European hubs to U.S. destinations.

Under the deal, Condor travelers can book single‑ticket journeys that include Southwest flights to six major U.S. airports—Boston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle—through Condor, travel agencies, and online travel sites. The partnership will enable passengers to reach Southwest’s 70‑plus U.S. cities without the airline operating long‑haul flights itself.

This partnership marks Southwest’s fifth international alliance, following agreements with Icelandair, China Airlines, EVA Air, and Philippine Airlines. It is part of the airline’s “Southwest. Even Better.” strategy to broaden its network and compete with carriers that offer extensive global routes while maintaining a low‑cost model.

The interline agreement expands Southwest’s revenue base by providing customers with additional route options and higher load factors on domestic flights. It also positions the airline to capture a share of the growing demand for convenient, low‑fare transatlantic travel, and aligns with upcoming customer‑experience upgrades such as assigned and extra‑legroom seating slated for January 27 2026.

Southwest Chief Operating Officer Andrew Watterson said the partnership “brings transatlantic journeys between dozens of U.S. airports and aspirational destinations,” emphasizing the airline’s operational reliability and the increased choice for travelers. Condor Director of Sales for the Americas, Mikko Turtiainen, noted that the collaboration “enhances Condor’s transatlantic connectivity and provides our customers with a wider range of seamless travel options.”

Operationally, the agreement is an interline arrangement that requires coordination of ticketing, schedule synchronization, and connection‑protection policies. Southwest and Condor will work to ensure reliable connections during the launch period and beyond.

Financially, Southwest reported record third‑quarter operating revenues of $6.9 billion in Q3 2025, a 1.1% year‑over‑year increase, and a net income of $54 million. While the partnership itself does not immediately impact earnings, it is expected to generate incremental revenue and improve domestic network utilization as part of Southwest’s broader diversification strategy.

Although specific market‑reaction data are not available, the partnership signals a strategic pivot that could influence investor perception of Southwest’s growth prospects and competitive positioning.
