A Southwest Airlines pilot was arrested on a DUI charge at Savannah airport on January 15, 2025, while conducting pre-flight checks in the cockpit. Airport security reported the pilot smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated. Police found the 52-year-old pilot with a 'strong odor of what seemed to be alcohol' and 'bloodshot, watery eyes.' The pilot, who refused a blood-alcohol test, was removed from duty immediately by Southwest Airlines. Federal Aviation Administration regulations prohibit pilots from flying within eight hours of consuming alcohol or with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.04 or higher. The incident led to the pilot's arrest and subsequent release on a $3,500 bond.
