Jefferson Wells, a professional services firm and part of the ManpowerGroup family of brands, released its ninth annual Internal Audit Priorities Survey on September 16, 2025. The report highlights cybersecurity, AI, and economic uncertainty as the dominating priorities for internal audit leaders in 2025.
Cybersecurity remains the top emerging risk for the fifth consecutive year, underscoring the critical need for robust cyber defenses. Generative AI has surged as the second most pressing concern, reshaping audit strategies, toolsets, and required skills.
Economic uncertainty is a new factor, cited by 26% of respondents, up from near zero in the previous year's survey. Internal audit departments are grappling with skill shortages in areas such as cybersecurity, AI, IT audit, and data analytics, with over 85% relying on external partners to bridge these gaps.
