A ManpowerGroup report released on January 22, 2025, highlighted persistent recruitment challenges in the Belgian labor market, with 72% of 525 surveyed employers reporting difficulty filling open positions. This figure, while slightly lower than the previous year, indicates a widespread skills gap across Belgium's three regions. Brussels experienced the most pronounced impact with 76% of employers struggling, followed by Flanders at 72% and Wallonia at 70%. Sébastien Delfosse, Managing Director of ManpowerGroup BeLux, noted the paradox of an ongoing skills imbalance despite an increase in available employees due to corporate bankruptcies and restructurings. The report also indicated that automation and artificial intelligence have not yet provided the expected relief for the talent shortage, as these systems still require significant human supervision. Recruitment challenges were particularly high in finance, real estate, public services, education, manufacturing, energy, and IT sectors.
