Marcus Theatres, the nation’s fourth‑largest cinema chain, announced a partnership with Pixelworks, Inc. to bring TrueCut Motion technology to its premium laser theatres. The rollout will begin in early 2026, with enhanced titles clearly marked in showtime listings.

TrueCut Motion is a post‑production platform that lets filmmakers fine‑tune motion, reduce judder and motion blur, and preserve artistic intent. By applying the technology to its 985 screens across 78 locations in 17 states, Marcus aims to offer a more immersive visual experience on its large‑format laser projection theatres.

The partnership aligns with Marcus’s broader strategy of modernizing its venues and differentiating its premium offering. The company has previously invested in technologies such as UltraScreen DLX, SuperScreen DLX, and Dolby Atmos, and the new format is expected to drive attendance and concession revenue in the premium segment.

Mark Gramz, president of Marcus Theatres, said the collaboration “continues our 90‑year commitment to modernizing the movie‑going experience and brings audiences an elevated level of cinematic clarity and realism.” Richard Miller, president of TrueCut, added that the format “ensures filmmakers’ intent is preserved while delivering a refined sense of motion and visual depth.”

While the announcement does not include financial figures, the move is viewed as a significant operational milestone that could strengthen Marcus’s competitive position against other chains offering premium large‑format experiences. The partnership also positions the company to capitalize on the growing demand for high‑fidelity cinema formats.
