MediWound Ltd. announced on August 13, 2025, the publication of a post hoc analysis in Advances in Wound Care journal. The analysis, based on data from 119 chronic VLU patients in the ChronEx multicenter randomized controlled trial, demonstrated a strong correlation between wound bed preparation (WBP) and wound closure.
Key findings indicated that wounds achieving WBP by day 14 were 4.0 times more likely to close by week 12 (p=0.0004), and wounds achieving WBP at any time were 4.3 times more likely to close by week 12 (p=0.0001). This provides clinical evidence that WBP is a critical step in the healing process.
The data reinforces EscharEx's therapeutic potential to improve healing outcomes by accelerating wound bed preparation in patients with venous leg ulcers. The analysis also highlighted a high negative predictive value, indicating that wounds not adequately prepared are highly unlikely to proceed to closure.
