Mercer Celgar has announced a partnership with Skemxist Solutions, a company owned by the Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB), to jointly operate a log sort yard in Okanagan Falls, British Columbia. This collaboration is designed to ensure a consistent supply of wood fiber for Mercer Celgar's operations.
The log sort yard will operate 11 months a year, supporting regional forestry goals while prioritizing safety, efficiency, and advanced sorting techniques for full resource utilization. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to sustainable forest resource management.
A key component of the partnership includes training programs aimed at preparing OIB members for careers in forestry and related industries. This focus on community development and economic opportunity strengthens Mercer's relationships with Indigenous communities and aligns with its broader sustainability efforts.
