Mercer Stendal has successfully implemented a 'Lean Gas Combustion at the Lye Boiler' project, designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. This initiative focuses on a more sustainable technology for handling rich gas, a byproduct of pulp production's chemical recovery.
A new burner port was installed during the general overhaul in November 2022, with the necessary peripherals integrated during the June 2024 overhaul. The system became operational in October 2024, ensuring stable and continuous combustion of rich gas.
This technology significantly reduces the need for emergency flaring or venting, even allowing the system to combust rich gas with minimal support at partial loads (50-60%) and without auxiliary fuel above 60% load. The project enhances Mercer Stendal's environmental balance and resource efficiency, aligning with sustainable business practices.
