Mercer Torgau has commenced a significant renaturation project aimed at restoring a 157,000 square meter area, equivalent to 22 football pitches, around Torgau, Germany. The project, which began in 2024, focuses on returning human-altered habitats to a near-natural state.

The initiative includes planting hedgerows across a 19,700 square meter area, situated between a forest and an agricultural zone. Additionally, an 80,869 square meter ruderal area is being created, where vegetation will develop naturally to foster a species-rich environment.

These measures are designed to promote biological diversity and restore ecosystem functionality, providing new habitats for plants, insects, amphibians, and reptiles. Mercer Torgau's efforts contribute to strengthening nature's resilience to climate change and align with Mercer International's broader commitment to sustainable forestry and environmental protection.
