Meta Platforms announced on October 1, 2025 that it will use conversations with its AI chatbot and other AI products to generate personalized ads and content on Facebook and Instagram. The change will take effect on December 16, 2025, and Meta will notify users via notifications and emails next week. The policy expands Meta’s existing AI‑driven recommendation system by adding a new signal from user interactions with its AI assistant. Meta says it will not use conversations about sensitive topics such as religious or political views, sexual orientation, health, or racial or ethnic origin for ad targeting. Meta’s AI chatbot is used across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, with more than 1 billion monthly active users. By leveraging AI chat data, Meta aims to improve ad relevance and conversion rates, potentially boosting ad revenue. The announcement follows a June Wall Street Journal report that Meta was working on a plan to use AI to automate ad creation. The new policy is a significant step in integrating AI into Meta’s core advertising business and could enhance the company’s competitive position in the digital advertising market.
