MSA Safety announced that its G1 XR 2025 Edition self‑contained breathing apparatus has received NIOSH and SEI certification for compliance with the 2025 edition of NFPA 1970.

The certification confirms the device meets updated requirements, including a new end‑of‑service‑time indicator that alarms at 31% remaining air, removal of soft goods for easier cleaning, and Bluetooth connectivity indicators.

The G1 XR 2025 Edition builds on a decade of firefighter‑driven innovation, adding enhanced soft‑goods, Bluetooth indicators, and an integrated telemetry solution. Production will ramp up at MSA’s Murrysville, Pennsylvania facility in the coming months.

The certification positions MSA to capture demand as fire departments transition to the 2025 NFPA standard, which consolidates previous editions and requires compliance by March 2026 for existing NFPA 1981‑compliant SCBAs. The certification supports MSA’s ACCELERATE strategy to deliver profitable growth through market‑leading technology.

MSA reported third‑quarter 2025 net sales of $468 million, an 8% year‑over‑year increase. The fire service segment experienced headwinds from delayed government grants and a U.S. government shutdown, but the new certification is expected to strengthen the segment’s long‑term prospects.
