Microsoft announced that it will ship 60,000 Nvidia GB300 Grace Blackwell AI processors to the United Arab Emirates, following approval of an export license by the U.S. Commerce Department in September 2025.

The shipment is part of a $15.2 billion investment Microsoft has committed to building AI and cloud infrastructure in the UAE, with $7.3 billion already spent by the end of 2025 and an additional $7.9 billion planned for 2026‑2029.

Microsoft has already deployed the equivalent of 21,500 Nvidia A100 GPUs in the UAE, and the new shipment will expand the region’s capacity for high‑performance AI workloads on Azure and OpenAI services.

The deal is supported by a $1.5 billion equity investment in G42, the UAE’s sovereign AI company, and includes safeguards to address cybersecurity and export‑control concerns linked to G42’s past ties to China.

The UAE is positioning itself as a global AI hub, and the shipment aligns with its strategy to diversify beyond oil and to become a leader in generative AI usage per capita.

The U.S. approval reflects a broader policy to strengthen trusted partners in AI development while maintaining controls on advanced chip exports, countering potential Chinese influence in the region.

Microsoft is dedicating a portion of its investment to training AI talent in the UAE, aiming to skill one million people by 2027.
