On June 5, 2025, ArcelorMittal inaugurated a new 20 million tonne capacity concentrator in Tokadeh, Nimba County, Liberia, with the presence of Liberian President Joseph Boakai and ArcelorMittal Executive Chairman Lakshmi Mittal. This state-of-the-art facility is a central component of ArcelorMittal’s US$1.8 billion expansion project in Liberia.

The expansion project increases iron ore production from 5 million tonnes to 20 million tonnes annually, alongside a significant improvement in product quality to higher-grade, higher-value iron ore. This brings ArcelorMittal’s total investment in Liberia to approximately US$3 billion.

The project also involved substantial infrastructure upgrades, including the railway from Tokadeh to Buchanan and a new pier at the port of Buchanan. It created 5,000 construction jobs and is expected to generate 1,000 permanent job roles, with plans for further expansion to 30 million tonnes annual production capacity.
