The Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association initiated a strike in late December 2024, leading to significant operational disruptions at Park City Mountain, one of Vail Resorts' most prominent destinations. As of January 6, 2025, only 103 of 350 trails and 25 of 41 lifts were operational, causing long lines and delays for patrons.
The union sought a base wage increase to $23 per hour from $21, a rate they stated had been stagnant since 2022. Vail Resorts countered that the average entry-level hourly patrol wage was $22.40 with skill-based incentives, and the average patroller earned $25 per hour.
The strike negatively impacted the guest experience during a peak holiday period, drawing public complaints and raising awareness of labor relations within the ski industry. Mediation between Vail Resorts and the union resumed on January 6, 2025, in an effort to resolve the dispute.
