Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) conducted its annual storm drill, training employees in a simulated hurricane scenario to enhance preparedness for the upcoming 2025 hurricane season. The drill, simulating 'Hurricane Dale,' allowed FPL employees to test and refine current processes for restoring power efficiently after severe weather events.
FPL President and CEO Armando Pimentel underscored the company's year-round preparations, which include strengthening infrastructure and enhancing the electric grid with innovative technology. These ongoing investments have proven beneficial in past storms, ensuring readiness for future hurricane impacts.
In 2024, FPL's smart grid technology helped prevent over 800,000 customer outages during Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. Additionally, underground power lines performed up to 14 times better than overhead lines during these storms, contributing to faster restoration times and improved grid resiliency.
