Newmont Corporation announced on October 25, 2025 that its Ahafo North project in Afrisipakrom, Ghana has reached commercial production, marking the completion of one of West Africa’s most significant recent mining developments.
The first gold pour at the site occurred on September 19, 2025, and the mine is expected to produce approximately 50,000 ounces of gold in 2025, with production ramping up through 2026 to reach full operational capacity. Over the next five years, the operation is projected to deliver between 275,000 and 325,000 ounces of gold annually during its 13‑year mine life.
During construction, the project created roughly 4,500 contracted jobs and established about 560 permanent and 1,000 contracted positions for ongoing operations. Ahafo North is Newmont’s third mining investment in Ghana and its second operational site in the country, reinforcing the company’s strategic focus on high‑value, high‑productivity assets.
