Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET) announced today that it is partnering with the world’s largest payments companies—Visa, Mastercard, and American Express—to build an authentication layer for agentic commerce, a new form of AI‑driven shopping where agents act as personal shoppers on behalf of consumers. The collaboration centers on Web Bot Auth, a protocol that allows AI agents to authenticate themselves and securely transact with merchants. Visa has integrated the protocol into its Intelligent Commerce platform, while Mastercard is embedding it in its Agent Pay solution and AmEx is adopting it for its agentic commerce program. The partnership also introduces the Trusted Agent Protocol, a framework that enables payment networks to verify the identity and intent of AI agents, ensuring that merchants can accept payments from trusted agents without compromising security. By extending its connectivity cloud platform into the payments ecosystem, Cloudflare gains a new revenue stream and strengthens its position as a foundational infrastructure provider for the emerging AI commerce market. The move aligns with the company’s strategy to serve large enterprise customers with a unified platform that combines security, performance, and developer tools, and it opens opportunities for future integrations with other payment and fintech partners.
