New Fortress Energy Inc. announced on March 17, 2025, that it has amended the extension of its 80 TBtu islandwide gas supply contract with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA). The previously announced one-year extension has been revised to a 100-day term.
This 100-day extension is intended to serve as a bridge period to facilitate an open Request for Proposals (RFP) for updated terms and duration of the gas supply contract. The company stated that this allows for an adequate period to secure a new contract that best serves Puerto Rico’s energy security needs at the lowest possible cost.
The change from a one-year extension to a shorter 100-day period introduces uncertainty regarding the long-term contractual arrangements in Puerto Rico. This development could impact New Fortress Energy's revenue predictability and strategic planning for its operations on the island.
