NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. announced on January 14, 2025, the rebranding of its recently acquired patented Micro Modular Reactor (MMR®) Energy System, which will now be known as KRONOS MMR™. This stationary small modular nuclear reactor is designed to deliver carbon-free electricity and high-quality process heat for industrial applications and hydrogen production. The KRONOS MMR™ complements NANO Nuclear’s existing 'ZEUS' and 'ODIN' microreactor technologies. The KRONOS MMR™ is designed to operate flexibly at power levels up to 45 MWt (15 MWe) and can utilize either low-enriched uranium (LEU) or high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU). With a compact footprint of less than 5 acres, this system enables NANO Nuclear to serve a broader range of markets with high energy demands, including large-scale data and artificial intelligence centers, manufacturing, and infrastructure. NANO Nuclear plans to continue the KRONOS MMR™ licensing process with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and extend its collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for demonstration. Further demonstrations are expected at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, where the MMR® was the first small modular reactor to enter formal licensing review with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
