NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. announced on February 17, 2025, the filing of four new separate utility patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) related to its Annular Linear Induction Pump (ALIP) technology. ALIP is a thermal management and distribution system based on electromagnetic pumps, considered a key-enabling technology for advanced molten-salt and liquid-metal nuclear reactors. The ALIP technology enables the movement of conductive fluids without mechanical components, reducing wear and maintenance while increasing efficiency in high-temperature applications. Applications extend beyond nuclear energy to space power and propulsion systems, industrial cooling systems, and defense applications. A U.S. Department of Energy’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III project is ongoing to refine ALIP for separate commercialization. These newly filed patent applications are expected to provide enhanced component lifespan and operational metrics in all advanced molten-salt and liquid-metal reactors, including NANO Nuclear’s KRONOS MMR™, LOKI MMR™, and ODIN portable microreactor. The filings bolster the company's intellectual property portfolio, protecting its progress in developing this critical technology for both internal use and third-party commercial opportunities.
