Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company (OG&E) successfully transported massive equipment, including half-million-pound transformers, to its Horseshoe Lake Power Plant in Harrah. This delivery marks a major milestone for the project, which involves the installation of new natural gas units.
These new natural gas units are scheduled to begin operation in late 2026 and will replace two 60-year-old aging units at the plant. They are designed to provide approximately 450 megawatts of generation capacity, significantly increasing the plant's output and improving reliability across OG&E's service area.
The project, which received unanimous approval from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission in 2023 and broke ground in October 2024, represents a direct economic impact of $536 million. The new units are also equipped to safely burn hydrogen when it becomes available, contributing to lower emission rates and enhanced operational flexibility.
