During the CERAWeek conference on March 12, 2025, ONEOK President and CEO Pierce Norton II emphasized the critical need for significant pipeline investment to support surging natural gas demand. This demand is driven by growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and increasing power consumption from AI data centers.
Norton stated that moving natural gas from prolific basins like the Permian and other shale regions to the U.S. Gulf Coast for LNG exports requires substantial pipeline infrastructure. This highlights the strategic importance of ONEOK's extensive network in connecting production to key demand centers.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects total gas consumption, including exports, to rise from 102.3 Bcf/d in 2024 to 105.5 Bcf/d in 2025 and 107.6 Bcf/d in 2026. ONEOK's expanded footprint and integrated system position it to capitalize on these long-term demand trends, despite potential infrastructure bottlenecks in the broader industry.
