Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. expressed strong support for the newly announced cooperation between the United States and the Cook Islands. This partnership aims to advance scientific research and the responsible development of seabed mineral resources, particularly polymetallic nodules. Odyssey is actively involved, holding equity in and providing services to two of the three licensed exploration programs within the Cook Islands’ Exclusive Economic Zone. The Cook Islands’ EEZ is estimated to host 12 billion wet tonnes of polymetallic nodules, making this partnership significant for critical mineral supply chains. Odyssey has collaborated with the Cook Islands government for over ten years, supporting exploration initiatives and the development of a robust regulatory framework for seabed minerals. This collaboration reinforces the global importance of these resources. As part of its ongoing operations, Odyssey recently deployed two Autonomous Benthic Mini Landers (ABMLs) to the Cook Islands. These advanced systems are designed to collect critical environmental data at depths of 5,500 meters, which is essential for developing responsible mineral programs. This operational deployment underscores the company's commitment to science-based, collaborative efforts in deep-sea resource development.
