Philips introduced DeviceGuide, an AI‑powered device‑tracking solution that overlays a virtual model of a mitral valve repair device onto live ultrasound and fluoroscopic images. Built on the company’s EchoNavigator platform, DeviceGuide provides clinicians with a real‑time 3‑D view of the device’s position and orientation as it moves through the beating heart.
The tool is designed for transcatheter edge‑to‑edge repair (M‑TEER) procedures, where a small repair device must be guided through complex cardiac anatomy. By automatically tracking the device and fusing echo and X‑ray data, DeviceGuide aims to shorten procedural time, increase accuracy, and reduce complication rates, according to Dr. Atul Gupta, Philips’ head of structural heart imaging.
Mitral regurgitation affects more than 35 million adults worldwide, and the M‑TEER market is expanding as patients who are not candidates for open‑heart surgery seek less invasive options. DeviceGuide is integrated with Edwards Lifesciences’ PASCAL Ace system, positioning Philips as a technology partner in a market that also includes Abbott’s MitraClip. The partnership leverages Edwards’ device expertise and Philips’ imaging and AI capabilities.
Philips’ launch of DeviceGuide aligns with the company’s broader strategy to embed AI across its product portfolio. In its latest earnings, Philips reported a 3 % increase in comparable sales and an Adjusted EBITA margin of 12.3 %, up from 11.8 % in the same quarter a year earlier. CEO Roy Jakobs said the company is navigating an uncertain macro environment, including tariff pressures, while maintaining disciplined cost control to support margin expansion.
The preview of DeviceGuide will take place at London Valves 2025, scheduled for November 16‑18, where clinicians will be able to see the system in action. Philips plans to make DeviceGuide available to hospitals that use the PASCAL Ace system in the coming months, with regulatory clearance expected in the first half of 2026.
By combining AI‑driven tracking with real‑time imaging, DeviceGuide could become a key enabler for safer, faster mitral valve repairs. The product’s introduction signals Philips’ commitment to advancing structural heart care and expanding its footprint in the growing M‑TEER market.
